ASSEMBLY SPEAKER KAREN BASS ENDORSES DEMOCRAT RICARDO LARA FOR 50TH ASSEMBLY DISTRICT
Historic leader of State Assembly supports Democrat Ricardo Lara for Assembly
LOS ANGELES—Democrat Ricardo Lara achieved another groundbreaking milestone today when he received the endorsement of Speaker of the Assembly Karen Bass in his campaign for State Assembly.
In her historic tenure as the first African-American woman in U.S. history to serve as Speaker of a state Assembly, Speaker Karen Bass has established a legacy of ably shepherding the state through the worst economic crisis in decades.
“I am humbled and honored to receive the endorsement of Speaker Bass,” said Ricardo Lara. “We both have worked in our communities to empower people to effect change at the local level.”
“These are difficult times,” Lara added. “But as Speaker Bass has said herself, our tough decisions must be smart decisions. We must provide for our seniors, the disabled and our children while growing our economy by putting people to work.”
A growing list of supporters have endorsed Ricardo Lara’s candidacy including Assembly Speaker-Elect John A. Pérez, Assembly Speaker Emeritus Fabián Núñez, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, the California Medical Association and Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers.
